May  5 /07 !! ... May of 1969 is the month that I got born , and  also May of 1989 my AX-1 got born too, and Honda started to sell it .

At September of 1993,  I got the AX-1 as second hand for 4100 € or 1.400.000 drachmas .

May is the month , that I started planing the rebuild , I had the AX-1 stopped with injured engine for 20 months, one  mechanic had do cheap work in my last repair , and I lived the hell of valves be toasted because of a broken guide in the cam-chain,   my finance was very bad , and I had all ready spent 570€ , for my last engine repair three months back .

So 22 months later , and after few months time in my new job, I started dreaming again, to bring in life the only  motorcycle that I own .

This time I would do everything my self , I do not trust anyone any more , only my self .

By starting the rebuild , I was not aware how time consuming it will be, but I was determined to do it .

Even to disassemble it , took me three weeks (spare time work) , and my work was not visible , because every little part had to be cleaned , with special chemicals , and to be stored with care .

All my friends start doing jokes on me , that I will never finish it .

So,  at the beginning of May I started to disassemble the AX-1, and the same period I become member in a Greek motorcycle forum , and many members asked me, to start posting images of  my work , and share the progress of my work with them ,  that¢s how the log of the AX-1 rebuild started .

Step 1 .. Finding a new engine ...... I am not an engines mechanic, but I am all the rest , so I searched to find one second hand good engine .   The prices of second hand parts are always high , and you must to be a little lucky, and to act smart,  when you deal with sellers .

I found  two engines available at that time , from a trust worthy local dealer , the first option was an NX 239 cc with 25000 Km , and the second was from AX-1 249 cc with 70000 Km .

All engines  cost  700€  , just the plain engine with the electric coils in it, and nothing else .

I selected the NX engine as more fresh , seller told me that it was imported from France , I took the risk to order it , and at the same time I started disassemble my AX-1 , removing all the parts of it , and storage everything  in 22 small carton boxes .

As I found my engine from the internet , I stared looking also and for other things , and lucky me, I found the service manual of the NX 250 ( Thanks to a Russian AX-1 owner ), and the Generic Honda service manual , I printed them both , and I started to plan my next moves .

Step 2 ..   End of May, and the AX-1, got totally disassembled , and I started to examine and admire the Honda parts , because  they had last in time so many years, was hard to find rust on them ,  the only surprise came when I seen the ball bearings of  the steering stem , the balls was full of rust , but the nest was perfect, so this was the first spare part, that I was in need  :-)
